Counselling & therapy
What is online counselling?
Online counselling allows you to meet a counsellor or psychologist remotely, usually by live video. It can provide many of the same opportunities for conversation, reflection and therapeutic work as an in-person session while allowing you to join from a private location.
You will need a reliable internet connection, a suitable device and a quiet, private space. The most appropriate format depends on your needs and can be discussed with the professional.
How do I know if I need counselling or psychotherapy?
You do not need to wait for a crisis. People seek counselling for stress, relationship or family concerns, academic or career pressures, difficult life changes, emotional patterns, or simply to understand themselves better.
A first conversation can help clarify what you are experiencing and whether counselling, assessment, another professional, or a different form of support is appropriate.
How long does therapy last?
There is no single duration that is right for everyone. Some people work on a focused concern over a small number of sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. The number and frequency of sessions should be guided by your goals, progress and the professional's assessment.
A routine counselling session is typically scheduled for about 40–50 minutes. Initial assessments or specialist consultations may require more time.
How do I know if treatment will be beneficial?
Counselling and psychotherapy can be helpful for many emotional, behavioural and mental-health concerns, but outcomes vary between people. Progress depends on factors such as the concern being addressed, the therapeutic relationship, goals and engagement with the process.
Your professional should review progress with you and discuss changes to the care plan when needed.
What kinds of concerns may be suitable for online counselling?
Online counselling may be suitable for concerns such as stress, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, workplace pressure, low self-esteem, grief, adjustment to life changes, family concerns and some behavioural or coping difficulties.
Suitability should be considered individually. Online wellness or routine counselling is not a substitute for emergency care. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, use the urgent-help resources.
Will I get the same therapist each time?
Continuity with the same therapist is generally preferred because it supports an ongoing therapeutic relationship. Appointment availability can vary. If you would like to change professionals, discuss this with the Mente Mirror team so that the transition can be handled thoughtfully.
Professionals & care
Who provides counselling and psychiatric care?
Mente Mirror's Human Care ecosystem includes psychologists, counsellors and psychiatrists. Their roles are different: psychological professionals provide counselling and assessment, while psychiatrists provide medical evaluation and may prescribe medication when clinically appropriate.
See the Team, Psychologists and Psychiatrists pages for the professional information currently published by Mente Mirror.
When might a psychiatrist be involved?
If a person's needs call for medical evaluation in addition to counselling or psychological support, psychiatric consultation can become part of the care pathway. The psychiatrist can carry out a medical assessment and determine whether medication or other medical treatment is appropriate.
Privacy & online sessions
How is privacy handled?
Mente Mirror treats privacy and confidentiality as important parts of the care experience. Data handling and website practices are described in the Privacy Policy.
For online sessions, use a private location and a device you trust. If a third-party communication platform is used, its own privacy and security terms also apply.
Do I need special software for online counselling?
You generally need a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection and a quiet private space. The Mente Mirror team can confirm the video or communication platform for your appointment.
Position your device so that you can speak comfortably without interruptions and use headphones if that helps protect privacy in your environment.
Fees & appointments
What are the charges and fees?
Programme and session information is shown on the relevant Human Care and Psychological Testing pages where available. Because services, session structures and fees can change, confirm the current amount and programme details with Mente Mirror before making a payment.
For changes to a scheduled appointment, see the Cancellation/Refund Policy.
